A Roush-tuned Ford Mustang is a modern muscle car gone manic. Our own Drew Phillips recently got to spend time with the 540-horsepower 2012 Roush RS3, which straddles the performance line between the Boss 302 and the Shelby GT500. If you like the sound of that but are looking to get a vehicle that’s even more exclusive, Roush now has you covered with its RS3 Hyper-Series.
The Hyper-Series cars have everything that the standard Roush RS3 wears as far as performance upgrades go. The Roush team decided to dress these coupes up a step further, however, by offering one of four unique exterior graphic and interior color treatments. Buyers can choose between Mat It Mango, Gas It Green, Punch It Purple and Launch It Lemon. Hennessey supercharges Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca. Having a drag strip behind your office would be both a wonderful play thing and an unyielding distraction. Hennessey Performance Design has such a delightful strip of attention-destroying asphalt at its disposal, and it uses this quarter-mile test track to examine the straight-line acceleration of its latest products. The most recent vehicle to run down this stretch is the Hennessey-tuned Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca.
According to Hennessey, the supercharged engine of this Boss 302 pumps out 650 horsepower. That’s enough scoot to push the car from 0-60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds, and on down the strip in 11.9 seconds with a trap speed of 124 miles per hour.

If you like Ken Block’s series of Gymkhana videos, then you’ll definitely want to check out Vaughn Gittin Jr’s latest flick featuring his Formula Drift Mustang. Gittin was recently visiting Saudi Arabia to perform a drifting demo at an event at the Al Reem Circuit, and he decided to stick around for an extra few days to get footage of him drifting on track. The result? Awesome.
Apparently, the track officials pretty much gave Gittin free reign of the entire complex, from the pit lane to the parking lots to the front straight, so the video shows him getting his Mustang sideways in a variety of locations. There’s plenty of tire smoke, wonderful sounds from the naturally aspirated 5.4L V8, and even a few smashed rear fenders.

Ford has partnered up with EAA AirVenture for the last several years, producing one-off aviation-themed Mustangs that are auctioned off to benefit the EAA Young Eagles program. Whether it’s the collectible nature of the cars or just plain generosity by those with deep pockets, the cars have always garnered huge bids. Last year, an SR-71 Blackbird-themed Mustang built in collaboration with Shelby and Roush sold for $375,000, and previous years’ cars have sold for up to $500,000.
We fully expect there to be plenty of interest in this year’s car as well, with the Blue Angels being chosen as the theme for 2011. The one-off Mustang was built by Creation ‘n Chrome in Valencia, California, and features an amazing chrome blue paint scheme that pays homage to the famous F/A-18 Hornets. The Spectra Chrome process that was used along with hand painting the graphics took more than 600 hours to complete. A Boss 302 front fascia, custom rear wing and a set of HRE 590RS wheels complete the look of the exterior.
The Blue Angels theme continues inside, drawing inspiration from the pilots’ suits. Dual yellow stripes can be seen on both the seats and seat belts, and the custom Alcantara and leather Recaros each feature an embroidered logo of the Blue Angels’ crest. A few pieces from the Boss 302 Laguna Seca parts bin were used inside as well, including the dash-mounted triple gauge pack and the rear seat delete that has also been painted yellow. Even the gauges have been changed to an aviation theme, with the speedometer now displaying “ground speed.”
Performance hasn’t been ignored either. A supercharger system, Ford Racing handling pack and Brembo brakes have all been installed.

Mustang sales numbers have been released by Ford Motor Company for the month of May and to our surprise they are down sharply from the previous month. Mustang sales were moving right along in March and April but May has brought us back to reality with close to a 20% decrease from the previous month. Looks like high fuel prices and the stalling economy are weighing heavy on buyers minds. Check below for the complete rundown.
Sales of the Ford Mustang for May of 2011 were 6,607 compared to 10,225 from May of 2010 showing a 35.4% decrease in sales from the previous year. Year to date Mustang sales are 30,206 compared to 31,061 for 2010, which is a 2.8% decrease over the previous year.
Month to Month sales took a nosedive as April 2011 sales were 8,180 compared to May 2011 sales of 6,607 which is a 19% decrease.
Taking a look at the competition the Chevrolet Camaro sold 9,451 and the Dodge Challenger sold 3,418 units for May.

V-6 Mustang Performace Package Renamed “Mayhem” In Contest.

The Mustang V-6 Performance Package is a bargain at $1,995 on top of the base price. The package kept the 305-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6, but adds performance parts everywhere else. When the option is selected, owners get the GT’s suspension and brakes, the 19-inch wheels with Pirelli performance tires, and a 3.31 ratio axle.

A while back, Ford was looking to rename the package. So instead of creating a focus group to do plenty of marketing research, they decided to do a contest instead. They went to their Mustang Facebook page, and asked their followers to offer a new name for the package. For the winner who came up with the best name, would get a three-year lease of a 2012 Mustang V-6 equipped with all the go-fast goodies bolted on.
The contest received 3,000 submissions through the Facebook page, and Ford is reporting that 6,700 people with smartphones downloaded the “You Name It” app that would allow users to participate in the contest. Facebook users could then vote for the name they liked the most, with people trying to propel their submissions into the top-five list. After the top five were chosen, Ford got to pick the name they thought was the best.
So the winner of the contest was a resident of Charolette, North Carolina, submitting the name “Mayhem Mustang Package.” Look out for the name change on upcoming Mustang sales literature.

Ford has announced a special version of 2012 Mustang V6, which will be offered with a new Mayhem performance package.
“We saw great enthusiasm from fans, with tons of creative, unique names coming in,” commented Brian McClary, Ford social and emerging media specialist.
“The contest was twofold – it let us engage with fans by letting them have a say, and it helped build awareness for the package.”, he added.
2012 Ford Mustang Mayhem is powered by a 3.7 liter V6 engine with 309PS (227 kW) and 379Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and returns 19 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
The car comes with a sport-tuned suspension, a strut tower brace and a revised electronic stability control system. Mustang Mayhem features a high performance braking system. It stands on big 19” alloy wheels fitted with Pirelli high-performance tires. The power is put on the road through LSD (limited slip differential) with ratio of 3.31.

The Ford Mustang name is among the most iconic in the world, and performance variants like the Boss, Shelby and Bullitt are almost as memorable in the eyes of enthusiasts. While those names were no-doubt spawned by committee, the newest Mustang variant was given its name on Facebook.
Ford opened up a competition on the Mustang Facebook page to name the new V6 Performance Package, and “Mayhem Mustang Package” won out. The winning submission, which came from Jeremy Marler in North Carolina, was chosen from over 3,000 entries. Marler’s entry wins him a three-year lease on a 2012 Mustang with his Mayhem designation.
The Mayhem package features a 305-horsepower, 3.7-liter V6, front and rear stabilizer bars, suspension and brakes from the Mustang GT and a 3.31 performance rear axle. To help differentiate the Mayhem Mustang from its less capable siblings, the variant will be given unique 19-inch wheels wrapped with Pirelli performance rubber and Mayhem badging throughout.
